CAPTAIN'S LOG - Back at Port (STORY PUSH)

Posted on Tue Mar 22nd, 2016 @ 5:36am by Captain Joe Rhimer

Captain's Log, stardate... uh... computer, append Stardate.

{{STARDATE 68219.2}}

We're back... successful... I guess. E'kruk is dead, Haruna is pretty well being committed for the time being... Voltaire is in jail, and Hunter is doing everything in her power to fall on that sword for him. I'd admire her commitment to her men, but... I don't know. He made the mistakes, she's got to stop making it her own fault. Lot of guilt there, somewhere. Can't figure out the angle on that...

{{Sound akin to a chuckle}}

I guess I'll hang up my psychotherapist hat for the day and let Garran figure that one out. At any rate, we're back at Starbase 334 for some shore leave. I put in a request for three weeks on station, but I assume I'll only get two. Not looking forward to another run in with Brenning after this mission, but I feel like it's going to happen. His weasel, Rashood, has magically disappeared as well. I'm hoping that doesn't come back to bite me. Then again, he threatened to expose Brenning... they might find him jammed in a compactor somewhere.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

We saved a lot of lives out there. We lost a couple... but we saved a lot. A lot of people will have their family members back again, they'll be okay. From what I've heard, Starfleet is offering them an honorable discharge with full compensation until their regular retirement funds would kick in. It's a small price to pay for the people who have suffered so much... but then...

There's always this nagging voice in the back of my head. Maybe we could have done better... maybe we could have left dry dock earlier if I'd let Haruna do what she wanted to do last time we were here... maybe if I'd told her no to going down we could have filled that spot with more able bodied feet and we wouldn't have had to put down so many... gah... put down...

They were human beings, and I'm talking about them like they're dogs in a shelter. But that's what we had to do... I don't know... Heh... I'm starting to sound like Hunter. You make the best choices that you can at the time... then after the fact you wonder if you made the RIGHT one.

At any rate... We're close home, and I've got a funeral speech to write... I'm going to miss you, E'kruk... in this short amount of time, we became fast friends. You were like a sister... and now, just as fast... you're gone...

{{LONG SIGH}}

Rhimer out.
